What?

You are invited to a ground-breaking conference focusing on how local arts and cultural venues, events and artists can become more welcoming to families. The event is taking place on 5 October at Lakeside Arts in Nottingham.

Greg Dyke, Director General of the BBC from 2000 – 2004 and Chairman of HIT, a production company specialising in programmes for the under fives, will be appearing as the Keynote Speaker alongside other ‘family friendly’ experts and practitioners.

Attendees will have the opportunity to discuss some of the issues surrounding ‘family friendliness’ and to debate topics such as: What does ‘family’ mean? How can families be encouraged to take part in the arts? What should be considered when trying to attract several generations of one family, or particular cultural family groups to an event? If an organisation thinks it attracts families well, how can it do it better? How can an organisation provide more creative opportunities for children and young people and involve the arts and artists in creating vibrant local communities and celebrating diversity?

The conference is being organised by Arts Council England and Cultivate, and is open to arts managers, artists, marketing professionals, education co-ordinators, arts organisations, venue programmers and anyone within the arts sector.

Michael Brome, performance poet, has been specially commissioned for the day and attendees will be given an Arts Council England Family Friendly Toolkit, which has been created to help organisations, venues and arts individuals become more family aware.

Places cost £75 per person which is payable by cheque to Cultivate-EM. Assistance is available to some delegates on a case-by-case basis to help with either the costs of attendance or towards any additional costs incurred towards family care arrangements. places will be confirmed on receipt of full payment.
